For this assignment, we were asked to name all of our best positive qualities. We were then given some questions that allowed us to reflect on ourselves and our personality and who and what influences it. The words below are a word cloud of all the qualities and virtues i think best describe me. In the 2nd image, we were asked to name the negative qualities of someone and also make them into a word cloud.
1) I don't really think i ever purposefully try and suppress any of my personality traits. I think that its possible they don't stand out too much if i'm in an uncomfortable situation or i'm shy. The negative traits i have i try and limit to a point and try and use my positive ones as a replacement when i can.
2) I think that every situation I encounter I use my personality traits. Whether it's a high stress situation, or an easy solution one, i'm able to practice using my traits and at the same time, create new ones. I think that when it comes to helping others, your personality traits really shine through.
3) I think lots of my personality traits can make my life difficult but i think its really important to have both good and bad because without the bad, you wouldn't be able to properly appreciate the good. I can be very stubborn and a bit negative in certain situations, but i think that there's a lot i can do to minimize that. Thinking about the positive side of everything and trying to make the best out of every situation is something i can practice doing.
4) I am a bit more creative than most of my family members which i think makes me stand out a bit in my family. I am the eldest of 4 so i'm also a lot more responsible than the rest of the kids. With all my friends, i think we are very similar in personality traits because we get a long so well because we're all so similar and have so much in common.
5) I've lived in a lot of places as i've grown up and i think just adapting to different cultures and places has really helped me grow as a person and allowed me to lose and gain certain personality traits .
6) Getting good grades in school is always a great reward for my hard work in school, which is thanks to my personality traits keeping me on track. I think i've learned throughout my whole life what bad traits shouldn't be picked up and followed even if i see other people doing it. I think i've definitely said and done some things that i shouldn't have and the consequences of those things have been able to help shape me into the person i am today.
7) All of my friends and family are people who inspire me and make me want to be a better person every day. I think that having people around you who are full of positivity and good traits will always help you become a better person and someone who you are happy to be. When you see someone do something you think is really good, you want to do it as well and you'll use that trait in the future. The same thing goes for if you see someone do something bad, you'll make sure you don't do the same.
8) For me personally, i think the way i'm feeling really reflects on how i treat others. If i'm having a bad day and i'm feeling upset or angry, i tend not to show my more positive traits and put out my negative ones instead. If i think someone doesn't like me, i tend to act more shy towards them and not be my normal outgoing self. This is something i notice a lot of other people do as well and i think it's okay sometimes but its good not to take any feelings or thoughts out on other people.
9) I used to be very shy when i was younger and one of my goals was to put myself out there more often and step out of my comfort zone. This has allowed me to make more friends, do better in school, and just boosted my confidence a lot in life. I also have really tried to look on the positive side of things instead of focusing on the negative which has impacted my life a lot and made my life a lot easier in the long run.
Part 3
Psychological Testing
For this assignment, we looked at different types of personality tests and how they can read your personality just by answering a few questions. I chose a test online (link below) and I answered some questions and recorded my results.
This test was created by the company "123 test". The test measures the Big Five personality factors that were developed over 3 or 4 decades by many different independent sets of researchers. This test would be use full for a psychology class or if you're studying psychology or personality or anything a long the lines of that. I think that my test was credible, the website was designed very nicely and there were no ads. The professional format of the website showed me that it was a legitimate website and test that i could take. I think that my test was reelable because they used the big five personality factors which we learned about in class. I thought that the test was well done but the only thing i found was a lot of the questions were a bit negative. They were directed in a negative manner which i found a little weird but other than that the test was interesting and gave interesting results.
My results for the test were: - openness to experience: 56% - conscientiousness: 30% - extraversion: 57% - agreeableness: 69% - natural reactions: 38%
When i tried to take the test again, the test was exactly the same so my results were exactly the same. I think these personality tests are valid. I can relate to a lot of the traits it gives me but at the same time i think i am a lot more and a lot less of certain things. I think a lot of personality tests online can be fake and not reliable but this one seemed the best out of all of the ones i looked at!
Drug Presentation: Hallucinogens
For this presentation, me and Stephany Derynck created a powerpoint presentation on Hallucinogens and how these drugs effect your brain and body. We explained in detail what they are and provided photos and videos.
For this project, i did a psychoanalysis of the movie Toy Story. I described the different scenes and what sort of defence mechanisms the characters used and their id, ego and superego.
Buzz Lightyear is convinced he is a real space ranger and not just a toy. Even when his laser is not working like in the image above where it is just a light, proving that he is simply a toy, he believes he truly is a space ranger and needs to get back to his home planet. The defence mechanism Buzz is using is denial. He refuses to believe and accept reality, that he is a toy because he thinks he will be useless if he is an ordinary toy. Buzz’s Id is telling his besides the fact his powers are not working, he is a space ranger still.
In this scene, Buzz is in physical distress due to his confusion of where is is and how he got to Andy’s bedroom. He begins to create scenarios in his head, using rationalization as a defence mechanism. He substitutes the reasons for his failing powers and why his “space ship crashed in Andy’s bedroom” with excuses such as his spaceship was mis launched. Buzz’s id is driving him to seek all the possibilities and options he can do to fix these problems (him stuck in Andy’s bedroom) while his superego is telling him to show everyone how he can fly.
In this same scene, Woody is using the defence mechanism projection. He is anxious about Buzz Lightyear becoming Andy’s new favourite toy and becoming the new popular one so he projects all his anger and hatred towards Buzz, trying to prove to him that he is a toy. Buzz hasn’t actually done anything to harm Woody, Woody is simply scared and projecting these emotions onto Buzz. Woody’s id is telling him he needs to be Andy’s favourite toy and he needs to make everyone see that Buzz is a fake. Woodys superego is feeling guilty towards the end, after causing a whole scene of negativity towards Buzz and everyone gets mad at him. In this scene, Woody is also using Regression as a defence mechanism. He is throwing a tantrum and a fit because of his jealousy towards Buzz. His longing to be Andy’s favourite toy is driven by his id, while his ego telling him to make everyone believe Buzz is a toy by throwing a tantrum.
In this scene, Buzz and Woody get taken by Sid, a mean kid who destroys toys. He is seen talking to his sister, whom it appears he does not like. He cannot hurt his sister when she gives him the answer he doesn’t like so instead, he takes her doll and takes his anger out on that. This defence mechanism is called displacement. He isn’t able to take his anger out on his sister, so he focuses it on a less powerful thing (the doll). His id would be driving him to take his anger out on something, while his ego tells him not to.
Questions for Further Investigation
1. How could i create my own personality test? 2. Would it be possible for hallucinogens that are natural and from the ground to become legal? 3. I would like to know more about how hallucinogens affect the brain in long term.
