For this project, I wrote down everything that stressed me out for a series of 4 days and recorded my behavioural, emotional, cognitive and physiological reactions. I then wrote down the different coping mechanisms i used to deal with my stress and how i did that.
For this project, i created a poster to help end the stigma of mental health and create awareness towards it. I decided to do a poster because i think it will catch peoples attention. I did this project alone.
For my project, i decided to do a drawing/painting. The multiple faces emerging in the drawing represents the many different personalities and moods that a person who has bipolar disorder. Being “bipolar” does not mean to just be moody and have minor mood swings, it is a serious brain disorder that causes unusual shifts in mood, energy, activity levels, and the ability to carry out day-to-day tasks. The stigma around bipolar disorder tends to lead towards the words “crazy”, “psycho”, “weird” and many other incorrect and offensive words. I thought that this drawing would help people understand the struggle people who have this disorder have to go through. The poem i wrote on the side is one i found online. I think it’s very simple but gets straight to the point. Once people find out they have this disorder, they immediately attach it to every emotion and anything the person does. People need to be more sensitive and understanding when it comes to dealing with this disorder and any mental illness and not blame the person for having their illness.
Questions for Further Investigation:
1. What exactly is bipolar (from stigma poster) and is it genetic? 2. What ways can you prevent stressful situations? 3. More efficient ways to prevent stress and anxiety.
