![]() 1) My sleep schedule has changed a lot throughout my life. When i was younger up until about grade 9 i had a very good sleep schedule and i was getting almost more than 8 hours of sleep every night. Once i moved to Whistler in grade 10, i began to take a lot of naps after school so i would go to bed pretty late and only get around 5 or 6 hours of sleep a night. Now in grade 12, i will usually force myself to go to bed by 11 which i think is a decent time and gives me time to do homework, hang out with friends and have some alone time as well. I find it really hard to get off my phone late at night when i am in bed just relaxing or turn off Netflix and that definitely contributes to my lack of sleep on certain nights. 2) I think that our start time at school (8:45) is really good. If it were to be earlier, i would have a lot of trouble getting out of bed and i would be late everyday. I used to go to school in florida in grade 9 and then start time was 7:20 and it was incredibly hard to get up and very hard to focus in my first two classes because it was so early and my brain was still asleep. I would rather start at 8:45 because getting out at 3:09 gives me a lot of time to do everything i need to do after school. Although it would be nice to finish school maybe an hour earlier just to give us more time to do things, i would much rather have a later start time. I wouldn't want to start any later than 9 though because in the winter it gets dark so early, getting out of school at 4 i would feel like my day is over. I think i should have a stricter sleep schedule and that would make getting up a bit easier for me. My mom sometimes has to be up early for work but that is only about once a week and my dad doesn't have a job that is time restricted so they would not be affected by any time changes with the school.

1) When i think of resiliency, i think of overcoming my difficulties in life and learning from them. I think of taking negative aspects and events that have happened to me in my life and overcoming them even though they've caused stress and sadness. I know that i am not resilient automatically and it definitely some time for me to be able to be resilient to certain situations and events.
2) Im going to think of something that wasn't traumatic but just an every day problem. I've wanted to go into marine biology for about 4 years now and i was set to do it next year in university. I found a program called Earth and Ocean Sciences at UVIC and applied for it without doing much research about the actual program, only the school. After being accepted i was really excited to finally be pursuing what i want to do in life until i looked more into the program. It turned out the program isn't what i thought it was and is very different from what i was hoping it would be. After the devastating discovery i was very upset for a while and i realized i couldn't go to school next year because i wanted to go into my first year excited and doing what i really want to do. I was very upset about the whole situation but more at myself for now doing more research before applying. I had to adapt to this mistake and create a whole new plan for next year (travelling and then school the following year). I thought the whole world was over and i wasn't ever going to get to go to school and be stuck at home forever but when i got myself out of that mentality and realized how many more options there are and that this isn't the end of the world, i think that proved my resilience to even non-extreme situations like this one. 3) To improve my own resiliency, i think i can practice being more positive and finding the positive in all the negative situations that occur in my everyday life, no matter how big or small they are. Embracing any changes (negative or positive) is also something i can do more as well as talking to friends and family or teachers about any problems i am having so they can help me overcome them. The article “Data That Turned the World Upside Down” was very interesting to learn about but at the same time very puzzling. I had absolutely no idea that the internet could be that powerful and influence an election. The power the internet has and what people are capable of doing using these tools is hard to comprehend. I have facebook but don't use it and have no likes so i wouldn’t be able to be put into the psychological tests that they use to determine your personality but i think that soon, they will be able to do the exact same thing with other forms of social media. I use lots of other social media devices and i think that what type of person i am can really be shown through those at times. I find if very scary to think about the past U.S election and how they were able to target people who were undecided on voting, to vote for Trump. This just proves that you have to be extremely careful with everything that you post on the internet because it can somehow be seen and used by anyone with the proper access to it.
This article has made me think twice about the things that i post and the type of information i give out online, although i have always known not to give personal information. I think that it is a huge invasion of privacy for these tests to be runned and should only be able to be done if the person gives you full permission. The thought of someone knowing my personal details only through my facebook likes is troubling for me to comprehend. My parents are the people who first come to mind when i think of someone who treats me with unconditional positive regard. They are the people who are always encouraging me to do good things and keep trying my hardest even when i mess up or give up. I think that their unconditional positive regard has made a huge impact on my life, i am able to feel loved and accepted by my family even when i am going through a rough time. My parents will always treat me with respect and the kindness that i need no matter what. The unconditional support i am given by my parents has allowed me to become successful in not only my schooling but with my social life as well. I am a much more confident person as well as compassionate and caring from them. I don't think that i treat myself with unconditional positive regard all the time like my parents do. I am definitely a lot harder on myself at times than my parents can be and i can be discouraged often. When i am discouraged or unmotivated, i can always count on my parents to give me the positive reinforcement i need to succeed and get a task completed. I think that i have standards in life that i need to live up to in order to be happy with myself and those conditions of worth allow me to motivate myself to become successful and happy in life.
That is why it is so important to have such a stable unconditional positive regard in your life, such as your parents who will love you unconditionally. My top 3 career results include:
- Biologist 73% match - Molecular Biologist 67% match -Medical Scientist 66% match My Learning style results include: - 33% Visual - 33% Auditory -33% Kinesthetic I think that with the learning styles i am a lot more of a visual learner than auditory and kinaesthetic. I really like to watch something be done or a video or tutorial in order to do it. It helps me a lot and i can remember how the person did it exactly. So having the test tell me i was split down the middle with all three learning styles was a surprise but i am able to learn with all three styles, i just prefer visual. With my career results, they science field was correct. I want to go into marine biology and so the test was very accurate with that. I was happy to see those results. The career test recommended a bunch of other different types of sciences like astronomy and medical science but i am not really interested in any of those. All the sciences that had to do with biology i am but i don't think i would pursue any careers in any other science fields. Stephany, who is also in Psychology 12, thought that my results were very accurate and she said she could have guessed the career one but was surprised as well with the learning styles results because she knows i like to learn visually. Ad #1: This video ad begins with a close up of a model who is completely natural, no makeup or hair done. It then begins to show the process of her getting her makeup, hair and everything done to make her more “beautiful” and ready for her photoshoot. Once the photo is taken, it then shows the extensive photoshop job that is done to the photo to make the model look “more beautiful” and fit societies standards. This ad attempts to satisfy women and acknowledge the fact that societies standards of beauty are impossible to achieve and set unrealistic goals for young girls. Seeing only the ad after all the makeup, hair and photoshopping is done leads the viewer to believe that this is what beauty is and that they won’t be able to live up to these expectations. I think that this ad fits in the self- actualization portion of Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy. Believing that a girl can only be beautiful if she’s skinny, hair done, makeup all done, isn’t right and this ad shows that. It shows that achieving one’s full potential, is what you think your potential is and not society or anyone else’s. The ads we are viewing are fake and set unrealistic goals. It can also fall under Esteem needs, it shows that there is no limit that media will go to sell certain things and as long as you keep in mind that it is not real and society isn’t allowed to dictate who and who isn’t beautiful then you’re able to feel accomplished. Ad #2: This add is warning people about the dangers of chemicals that companies are putting in our food. It is using the needle in the apple as a scare tactic to make people understand that it is poison going into our foods.
I think that this ad fits under physiological needs. Food is one of our basic needs to survive but with the amount of chemicals being injected into the things we eat, we aren’t getting the correct nutrients that we need from food. The ad is promoting organic foods and hoping to make people realize the dangers of the amount of chemicals and pesticides being consumed daily. Although food is one our basic needs that we need to survive, we need to be eating the correct ones. ``````` I think that both of these ads do a really good job of showing the message they’re trying to get across. I think that the chemically altered food one is straight to the point and easy to understand because it’s a picture and the video might take a bit more time and effort to understand. I personally think that the dove commercial is more effective just because i can relate more to it, being a girl and living in a society where beauty’s standards are achievable. This commercial did a really good job with allowing the viewer to relate and it was very interesting to watch. Questions: 1. I think that the most powerful ads that come across in motivation are the self- actualization ads. They are the most emotional and allow people to relate on personal and sentimental ways that not all food or dating website ads can give. I think advertisers are really good these days at making connections with audiences and allowing them to feel for either characters or pictures or whatever they use for their ads. 2. Advertisers appeal to our needs to sell their products of whatever they're advertising to make money. They also use ads to get messages across to the public because it's an easy way to make sure lots of people see it through social media these days. I think that to a point it is ethical but a lot of companies have taken ads too far. An example of this is the current pepsi commercial, where people are complaining that pepsi used the current protests and discrimination going on in the United States to sell their product. 3. - If teachers allow you to do a group project with your friends, this uses your need for friends in belongingness to motivate you do do your work and fulfill your education. - restaurants use ads to motivate you to come to their restaurant to satisfy your need for food. The authors apply the scientific method to their inquiry by following each and every step of the scientific method. They followed it and gathered lots of information and previous experiments. They also created a hypothesis and then tested it with a very precise experiment. Once they had their results, and then created a conclusion that correctly answered their hypothesis. I thought that this experiment was extremely well thought out and in depth. A lot of the time i kept thinking there could have been a lot of errors or some things were not exactly fair but then the authors wrote about how errors could occur which made me relate more to them. After reading about this experiment, i have a lot more knowledge on context- dependent memory. With the results, i am able to relate a lot to it, learning in the same classroom everyday helps a lot which i have realized a lot more after reading this. I also got to see how a real paper looks like and how i am supposed to write one. I thought that the way it was written was pretty dull and it took me a really long time to read and fully understand the experiment just because it was such hard writing to follow along. I also thought that the results table was really hard to understand and i did not quite understand that but other than that it was really interesting.
This violated the APA and CPA code of ethics in many ways. Some examples in APA include: Respecting autonomy, being just, according dignity, treating others with care and compassion, and accepting accountability. In CPA, respect for the dignity of persons, responsible caring, integrity in relationships, and responsibility to society were all violated. The guards began to violate the prisoner's, treating them with cruelty when they should not have been. They weren't real prisoners and had done nothing wrong, there for violating almost all of the CPA and APA code of ethics. Although the prisoners eventually began to rebel, they were still treated with disrespect from the pretending guards. I think that the experiment was interesting to learn about but it is a really horrible event for someone to have taken part of. The guards would treat the prisoners really awfully and the prisoners would start to act out like they normally wouldn't in their normal lives. I think that there must have been away that Zimbardo could have tested his hypothesis. Using different stereotypical roles in life instead of violent ones such as prisoners and guards. It was interesting to see that the participants actually dedicated themselves to their roles so much but at the same time it kind of scared me to know people would go that far just because they are told to do so. |
